Just to explain, the following report has been written by our
'Leader' June in the tone of 1st, 2nd and 3rd teams - captains and
players. 1sts were Friday kitchen helpers, 2nds were Saturday
kitchen helpers and so on.
The Firsts.... performed magnificently on the day. Helen
kicked off for the firsts due to the late arrival of the Captain. The team
got into the first half of the game in good style and Helen was soon able
to retire to the touch line and June took over - Jennifer was sin binned,
along with Janet, for most of the afternoon but we were able to bring on
young blood with Victoria and Gill who leant us the height required to
move quickly throughout the afternoon without having to bring on the
steps. All in all a sterling performance by one and all.....we drank
steadily during the day and built to a grand finale towards the end of the
day - but overall great drinking control and no dribbling.
The Seconds...good captaincy here as Helen managed to pass
off pasty that had seen better days as though it had fresh legs (a good
use of beans by Sarah - who, although exhausted from team play during the
day went on to better her performance on Saturday night and managed to
score 5 times! - what a player). Jayne and Jenny (the younger) joined for
the second half and they were all propped up by the ever youthful June.
Again there was drink control in place, captained well by Helen, but Jayne
and June managed to sneak a couple past Helen. The after game activities
were well attended and whilst June felt she had scored with Mike H, Janet
took possession and tackled him - nice work Janet.
The Thirds....... the day got off to a sizzling start, but
got bogged down by pasty through the second half of the day....but a final
flurry by the team, saw the pasties really fly out the hatch towards the
end of the game. Unfortunately the drinking was not as controlled as it
had been over the two previous days and there was a lot of foul play. I
really feel that the captain (Jennifer) let the team down as they followed
her example (aided and abetted by side kick Janet - I would have expected
more from this player...she's a wife and mother and, therefore, should
show some moral fibre....I expect nothing from Jennifer and she never lets
me down). The whole game got very messy towards the end and there were a
couple of nasty injuries (my glass for one). Jennifer did try to contain the bad behaviour to the kitchen (well
done on this decision Jennifer) - however one or two of us got by her and
I feel that Jennifer should have controlled us and saved us (and the
Clubhouse) from these unsporting spectacles (for this read pole-dancing
in the kitchen by June - see photos below).
All in all, I think the teams performed as I would have
expected them to (Jennifer, that's not good!).
Man of the Match: Difficult decision here - Sarah was a
strong contender due to her stamina throughout the day and night but then
I figured she'd got enough over the Easter and didn't deserve anything
else. Therefore I feel it would have to go to me just for drinking each
and every day, not remembering getting home once, and still looking
gorgeous the following mornings (you should have seen me in the mornings -
I just deteriorated by the time that I got to the Clubhouse). I am now
sporting rugby injuries.....a few burns and a really bad back (I've got to
go for physio which, to you old bats, means nothing as you do this sort of
thing all the time, but I'm not the type of bird who strips off and lets
strangers grope her.....well not without a couple of bottles of Becks
first), plus I've got a sore knee and it's not even a carpet burn!
So thanks for your company whilst I worked!
Many thanks to June for allowing her
humorous report on the very hard-working kitchen staff to be shared.
Also very many thanks to everyone who helped over the weekend.
