3rd July 2006

Vagabonds beat  Crosby in their Forrester's Division Two match on Monday 3rd July.  Score: Vagas 129 for 7 - Crosby 85 all out.

Tuesday 9th May 2006

The first ever Vagabonds Cricket team took to the field in Forrester's Division 2. The omens were good as the weather turned from summer to pleasant winter rugby conditions with slight drizzle just before the start. Captain John Pulman lost the toss and Ronaldsway B opted to bat.

Wickets fell at a steady rate with the star of the bowling being Nigel O’Reilly who took 6 for 10. He was ably backed, after a shaky opening spell due to the slippy conditions, by John Pulman who had figures of 3 for 16. Jason Bowden took the other wicket. The outstanding moment in the field was Jonny Beckley’s fantastic catch at Wicket Keeper when he dived full length to dismiss Ronaldsway’s most dangerous batsmen. John is obviously used to taking wayward passes the way he plucked the same out of the air.

Ronaldsway’s innings closed on 45 all out in 12 overs.

The Vagabonds reply was slow to start and two early run outs, one of which Noel O’Connor and Tim Cope had differing opinions on, did not help. However Tim scored 10 to redeem himself and Steve Merriweather and Nigel O’Reilly saw Vagas home for the loss of 5 wickets in 14 overs.

A great start to the season and an enjoyable night was had by all who are now looking forward to next Monday night's game against Loaghtan Rams at Nobles.

Anyone wishing to play should see John Pulman or Ian Forrest to sign the relevant Registration forms.

Our thanks go to Malcolm MacDonald (IofM.net) our sponsors who enabled us to buy all the equipment we needed to get the whole thing off the ground.

Updated: 5th March 2006

We're pleased to announce that we have been successful in finding a sponsor for the coming season. They are the internet service provider who host our website, IOFM.NET.  It's good to know they consider our web site one of the best on the Island and are pleased to have their logo attached to Vagas - our thanks go to them.

Vagabonds hope to have at least one cricket square at Ballafletcher and possibly two, these will be ours and consequently we have entered and been accepted in to the Isle of Man Cricket Leagues and Cup Competitions, we will be playing in Forrester's 2 and using the all weather pitch at Nobles Park until Ballafletcher is ready.

We have set up a small committee to look after the cricket, Ian Forrest is looking after the paper work side and John Pulman is Coach and Captain.  They need your support...........how can you help?  If you are interested in playing please contact John on 464106 or email Ian at if@cains.com or if you have any equipment that you think might be useful bats, pads etc etc please let us know.

See below for details of net practices - as we're the "new kids on the block" these are the only times available, but we are looking for any options that might come available.

UMPIRES COURSE

The IOMCC is holding a course for beginners and players wishing a more in-depth understanding of the Laws, and this will take place at our Clubhouse, starting on Wednesday 1st March at 19.30hrs.  Each session will last for about 2 hours with 6 sessions in total. This is not limited to Vagabonds but is open to all the cricket clubs on the Island.

Anyone interested could they please email Allan Thompson allant@manx.net
